Patently Obvious 10 better green living tips
Avoid over packaged products
It is possible to save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide a year if you cut down your rubbish by 10%. Watch out for products with separately wrapped labels around the container rather than having the label printed directly - it is excess packaging we could do without.
Stop Driving
Try other means of transport such as walking, jogging or riding a bike it's not only better for the environment but also for your health.
Why not plant a Tree
A single tree can absorb one ton (2,000 pounds) of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. This could even turn into a hobby as it has for Patently Obvious founder Andy Hill.
Build a compost heap
Now you have planted a tree why not start composting. With landfill space dwindling, composting is an extremely valuable way of reducing your rubbish. You will also end up with great food for your plants and trees.
Recycle More
You could save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide per year by recycling just half of your household waste and so try and look out for recyclable products.
Use the power of the Sun
Adjust your blinds or curtains to cut back on the energy used for heating and cooling your home. In the summer, keep curtains and blinds closed to keep cool and in the winter, open up and let the sunshine in to add some extra warmth.
Reuse Your Bags
Over a billion plastic bags are handed to customer's everyday. Reusing shopping bags significantly reduces both emissions and waste.
Time to change your light bulbs?
Simply replacing one regular bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb will save 150 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
Easy on the printing
It takes 390 gallons of oil to produce a ton of paper and so we should only print when we really really have to. If your just printing a map or for proof reading why not print on both sides of the paper.
Lay off the baths
Rather than taking a bath, why not take a quick shower and use a water-conserving showerhead, which can save 350 pounds of CO2 a year.
